Meet Dr. John BPE, BEd, DC
Your doctor of Chiropractic

Hi, I’m Dr. John Rae, your Doctor of Chiropractic. With over 20 years of experience, I’ve been dedicated to helping individuals and families in Barrie—and now also in Wasaga Beach—achieve optimal health through natural, hands-on care.
My mission is to provide a family-friendly environment where our patients not only feel at home but are also empowered through education on spinal corrective care. I believe that when people understand their health, they can make better decisions and live fuller, more productive lives.
I specialize in the Gonstead chiropractic technique, a precise and thorough method that focuses on correcting spinal misalignments to restore proper function to the nervous system. This technique allows me to tailor care to the individual needs of each patient. Learn more about the Gonstead technique below.

What Is the Gonstead Method?
The Gonstead Method is a unique and precise approach to chiropractic care developed by Dr. Clarence Gonstead, a pioneering chiropractor whose work transformed the field. This method focuses on the health and alignment of your spine—starting with its foundation.
Just like a house needs a solid foundation to stay upright, your body relies on a balanced base, which is your pelvic girdle (the hip area and lower spine). If this foundation shifts or tilts, it can affect the alignment of your entire spine, leading to pain, poor posture, and other health issues.
Why Spinal Alignment Matters
Your spine is made up of small bones called vertebrae, separated by soft discs that cushion movement. If a vertebra shifts out of place (due to injury, stress, or poor posture), it can put pressure on these discs and pinch nearby nerves. This is called a subluxation.
Subluxations can cause nerve irritation, pain, inflammation, and even interfere with how your body communicates with itself—leading to a wide range of symptoms in different areas of the body.
What Makes the Gonstead Method Different?
The Gonstead Method stands out because it looks beyond just the obvious problem areas. Chiropractors trained in this method pay close attention to the entire spine, especially the lower back and pelvis, which are often overlooked. That’s because a problem in your lower spine can cause the rest of your body to compensate, leading to additional misalignments higher up.
The key to the Gonstead Method is its specificity. After a complete analysis, your Gonstead chiropractor delivers highly specific adjustments to address only the problem areas (the areas of subluxation). The focus of these adjustments is to be as precise and accurate as possible. Great care is taken to ensure a bio-mechanically correct position and a precise thrust, which provides the most accurate and painless adjustment possible.
By focusing on the exact vertebrae causing misalignment, the Gonstead Method corrects the root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.
Our Goal
The goal of the Gonstead Method is to restore your spine to its natural, balanced state by locating and correcting any interference to the nervous system caused by vertebral subluxations. This allows your body to heal itself and function at its best—without drugs or surgery.
With the Gonstead Method, you’re not just getting a chiropractic adjustment; you’re getting a specific, individualized solution to help you feel better and function at your best.
